So you’re thinking about therapy

So you are thinking about starting therapy. Welcome to my blog! Trying to find the therapist who will be the right fit for you can be overwhelming. The times in my life that I have been looking for a therapist helped me realize it can be difficult to know who I should choose. Here are some things to consider as you are looking:

  • A good therapeutic relationship makes the biggest difference in whether you feel therapy gets you where you want to go. This is great news! If you feel like your therapist understands you well, listens, if you feel comfortable talking with them, that is a good sign.
  • If you can talk with the therapists you are interested in seeing, even for a brief moment on the phone, you can often get a good sense of whether you would enjoy working with them. Are they friendly? Can they answer your questions? Most therapists have busy days so it may not be possible to talk to them for longer than 5 to 10 minutes, but even that amount of time will probably give you a good sense of them.
  • It can take a few session to feel more comfortable with a therapist, but if you don’t feel a connection it might be time to see someone new. Remember, this is your time, effort, and money. It is absolutely ok to keep looking.

If you are reading my blog, it might be because you are looking for a therapist. Feel free to contact me to set up a time to chat or email so you can see if I feel like a good fit for you.
